Overview

Bold in design and substantial in form, the QUAD PLATINA INTEGRATED delivers reference-grade sound, exceptional power, and peerless finesse. Typically QUAD, yet offering a new timeless form, reimagined with crisp, modern intent, the PLATINA series retains the soul of its heritage while embracing today’s clean geometry, refined materials, and purposeful simplicity. An exercise in restraint and refinement, tactile machined aluminium knobs and subtle buttons flank a crisp TFT display, providing a tactile and visual focal point. The disciplined rear panel layout, with gold-plated connectors, speaks to both form and function, ensuring a premium user experience at every touchpoint. The result is strikingly contemporary.

Power by Design

The engine of the flagship series, the PLATINA INTEGRATED boasts a massive new power amplifier section, setting out its stall as a powerhouse of precision. A ‘dual mono’ class AB design offers 2 x 200W into 8 ohms (300W into 4 ohms) and delivers effortless authority with vast headroom and dynamic control. Engineered to drive even the most demanding loudspeakers, it combines muscular output with audiophile finesse, resolving the finest musical details with scale, grip, and composure.

Developed over a rigorous five-year period, the PLATINA INTEGRATED was engineered from the ground up by QUADs trusted design team, using meticulously specified, high-grade components. Every element and configuration was selected or approved by 'ear' to ensure the PLATINA INTEGRATED remained true to concept and QUAD DNA. Notably, bespoke capacitors—developed exclusively for this model in collaboration with renowned specialist Wurth Elektronik—form an integral part of its distinctive design architecture.

A custom-designed 630VA high-power toroidal transformer with a large filter capacity in the power supply (44,000uF per channel) and cascaded voltage regulators in the analogue and digital sections upholds QUAD’s renowned reputation for musical integrity. From the subtlest harmonic overtones to the full force of a dynamic crescendo, the PLATINA INTEGRATED delivers music with extraordinary realism, dimensionality, and grace.

The amplifier’s design leverages extensive SMD component integration to achieve a compact, low impedance, noise immune design with thermal stability and added manufacturing efficiency.

These sophisticated and short connection lines mean lower parasitic inductance and resistance, which translates to lower impedance in signal and power paths, reduced susceptibility to noise and oscillations, and improved high-frequency performance and stability. Optimised component placement also brings minimal loop areas (important for current paths), reducing electromagnetic interference, and better thermal and electrical symmetry, which is key for audio fidelity and long-term reliability.

The result is an engaging yet transparent sound presentation that honours the artist's intentions, whether streaming high-resolution files, spinning vinyl classics, or commanding a modern home theatre setup.

At the output stage, the QUAD PLATINA INTEGRATED uses a premium four-channel active volume control. Backed by active circuitry, it allows for precise, step-based volume changes so the volume will increase or decrease feeling natural and consistent to the ear.

Digital Domain

A fully-fledged and truly modern amplifier solution; at the heart of the PLATINA INTEGRATED digital capabilities lies a state-of-the-art DAC featuring an ES 9038 PRO chip. A hallmark of high-end DAC design, the DAC section uses two high-precision master clocks, one for 44.1 kHz and one for 48 kHz families. Capitalising on QUAD’s rich history in analogue and digital audio solutions, this DAC chip implementation ensures astonishingly-low jitter levels with improved transparency and imaging for faithful reproduction of digital source material – source materials that can extend into PCM up to 768 kHz and DSD512, allowing for lifelike detail across a wide range of audio formats. Utilising the full strengths of the ES 9038 Pro, the PLATINA INTEGRATED also offers listeners the ability to upsample lower-resolution PCM streams to either 352.8kHz or 384kHz, unlocking greater detail and smoothness from compressed or legacy recordings. A choice of five user-selectable DAC reconstruction filter settings, allows subtle yet effective tailoring of the sound character to suit both the source material and listener preference. This level of fine-tuning is particularly valuable when navigating the variable quality often encountered across digital formats and streaming platforms.

ROON TESTED

The PLATINA INTEGRATED is also Roon Tested, thus opening up to the world of Roon.
Fundamental goal is to provide a consistently stellar user experience. This goal doesn’t stop at the software… the expertise extends all the way down to the audio playback hardware, regardless of manufacturer. As a Roon Tested partner, QUAD has provided equipment to Roon for testing with a variety of different operating systems and computers and shared information about its design and capabilities. QUAD has a direct relationship with Roon, and in many cases, the Roon support team has our devices on hand, so you can confidently choose to use QUAD hardware with Roon.

Usability

Despite its wealth of performance options and capabilities, like all PLATINA components, the QUAD PLATINA INTEGRATED is built around an expertly crafted general user interface (GUI), tactile controls and a full colour TFT display. This interface improves functionality by making complex settings and features more accessible and intuitive. It allows users to navigate options quickly, view system status at a glance, and adjust parameters with clarity and precision, without needing to remember commands or rely on cryptic button combinations.

The GUI grants access to comprehensive connectivity options, which include balanced XLR, RCA, MM/MC phono inputs, two optical and two SPDIF inputs, and PC USB audio inputs, accommodating the most versatile audiophile system configurations. Furthermore, the innovative HDMI ARC input ensures seamless integration with modern home audio and TV setups, guaranteeing a high-quality sound experience from entertainment systems.

The fully functioning remote control also offers intuitive instant access to primary controls, and the single remote extends its reach over all components in the PLATINA series.

Analogue Domain

The QUAD PLATINA INTEGRATED can accommodate analogue sources via two pairs of RCA inputs, a pair of balanced XLR inputs, and a dedicated, high-performance MM/MC phono stage. Each analogue input can be selected via the remote control, and each offers independent input sensitivity via the extensive GUI.

Via the aforementioned GUI, the phono stage’s three selectable gains (46dB, 52dB, 60dB) and selectable input impedance (MM or MC) can be accessed and adjusted to suit the user’s requirements. This custom-designed phono stage is QUAD’s most advanced phono stage yet. This JFET design enhances the MM/MC functionality by providing a high input impedance, making it ideal for seamless interfacing with MM (moving magnet) and MC (moving coil) cartridges. Its exceptionally low noise performance is particularly advantageous for MC cartridges, which typically produce very small output signals in the millivolt or microvolt range.

Outputs

Along with premium speaker terminals, the QUAD PLATINA INTEGRATED offers balanced XLR and RCA output options, which maintain the flexibility of integration into wider audiophile systems for use with subwoofers or even higher power amplifier solutions, for example, without compromising functionality.

In addition, a current-feedback headphone amplifier delivers exceptional bandwidth, ultra-low distortion, and lightning-fast transient response. Unlike traditional voltage-feedback designs, it reacts instantly to dynamic changes in the music, maintaining effortless clarity even with the most demanding headphones. The result is a sound that feels immediate, open, and alive, with astonishing grip, detail, and resolution across the frequency spectrum.

The Conclusion

A result of many thousands of man-hours devoted to concept, design, and engineering, the PLATINA series stands as a testament not only to the tradition of QUAD electronics, proven benchmarks, and brand philosophies; it is, without a doubt, the most advanced and accomplished QUAD solution to date.
