Every manufacturer’s desire is to have it wares in reviewers’ systems. The reason is transparent, if it’s good enough for the reviewer, then it must be good enough for the reader. Precious few are the hi-fi components that have found near-universal acclaim. Quad has delivered a succession of products so clearly of dynamic and stalwart quality that it’s difficult finding a reviewer who hasn’t used a Quad speaker or amplifier in his or her system at some point.
Customers like to know that their purchases will not be rendered obsolete by the annual wave of new developments. Products need to be designed with a degree of ‘future proofing’ in order to justify their existence.
Quad has always had an overriding philosophy, ‘the closest approach to the original sound…’ and designs products that are perfectly suited to one application without the compromises inherent in trying to accommodate others. As time progresses and even as Quad hi fi designs take a more aesthetic approach, it still maintains an image of austere traditionalism carrying on a belief that the ‘pipe and slippers’ approach to enjoying music still has much to offer the genuine enthusiast. |
